Survey of music history and literature from antiquity through the Baroque. Emphasis is placed on the origin of the theories of music, the distinct role of the church, the development of forms, and the musicians responsible for the major developments in Western musical style. Prerequisite(s): MUS 202 and MUS 216 or permission of instructor
