Learning Objectives: 1.The students will develop a basic understanding of the criminal justice system. How the major parts of the system relate to each other and how the roles and responsibilities of the various actors (Police Officers,Criminal Investigators, Prosecutors, Defense Attorneys, Judges, Juries, Probation Officers, Parole Officers, etc.) interact and overlap. 2.The students will develop an understanding of various concepts related to the field and they will learn to apply these concepts to hypothetical situations. 3.The students will develop better written and oral communication skills. They will learn the value of these skills and how they impact the success or failure of the criminal justice system. 4.The students will develop a better understanding of the various roles that criminal justice professionals play in society. They will begin to understand the different career opportunities that exist within the field. 5.The student will become familiar with the physical and psychological dangers that criminal justice professionals face,as well as,the emotional rewards that criminal justice careers can bring. 6.The students will learn to see the true criminal justice professional as an instrument of justice. 7.The instructor will attempt to convey the importance of common sense and good judgment in the criminal justice process.
