EDUCATION 328: FIELD EXPERIENCES IN SPECIAL EDUCATION - 1343 - EDUC 328 - 01



Learning Objectives: 1. Identify different exceptionalities by West Virginia state regulation definitions. 2. Demonstrate an understanding of issues and/or procedures involved in communication and cooperating with regular classroom teachers and administrators. 3. Demonstrate an understanding of ways in which faculty, staff, parents, and/or community members would interact as part of the special education program. 4. Identify principles and/or procedures for effective management of classroom for exceptional learners. 5. Identify features that contribute to the comfort and safety of a classroom for exceptional learners, including respectful language and cultural competency. 6. Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of various instructional settings for learners with special needs (e.g. self-contained classroom, resource room, home, hospital, or community based centers). 7. Demonstrate an understanding of US and West Virginia laws and regulations concerned with special education (e.g. class loads, eligibility criteria, implementation of the individualized education program, physical environment, confidentiality, etc.) {Policy 2419, IDEA, Section 504 of Rehabilitation act} 8. Identify some commonly used formal and informal evaluative techniques used for diagnosis and prescriptive functions in special classrooms. 9. Work cooperatively under the guidance of professional personnel in a setting serving learners with exceptionalities, including group problem solving skills. 10. Communicate personal opinions, and those of practitioners, regarding current trends in special education. 11. Demonstrate an understanding of terminology related to the field of special education.
